I was asked if I was interested in contributing to a book about DIY Plywood Furniture a few weeks ago. I've been putting aside a little time on this and rediscovering SolidWorks, which is great for relatively quick 3D sketch modeling. The author of the book is Philip Schmidt and it will be published by Storey Publishing (both of which specialize in DIY type books which are pretty cool).  Their links:

About the Book

The book will contain 101 clever, custom, modern home furnishings and accessories that you can build on a budget using basic hand and power tools. Many are easy to disassemble for storage or to take with you when you move (great for renters and those on the lam). All are made with standard materials available at lumberyards, home centers and online suppliers.

Also I've been on a material hunt lately, for these shells (walnut maybe) and good feathers. I had success finding each today!

Necklace pendants (in progress)

I found some nuts in the woods that I thought would make nice bases for some sculptures to come out of. They're made out of sculpey. Here they are after being baked. They will be painted, their shells will have a clear glossy enamel coating, and they will be glued into their shells. 

Squidpus (finished)

I forgot to post this once she was finished. Here she is, better late than never. She's got 4 shoes among her 8 legs and silver sequin suction cups! Her eyes are multifaceted shiny buttons.  Her legs have wire inside and are reposition-able. 

Also, here's a rug concept I gave up on. This is as finished as it's gonna get. It was a bit too labor intensive. Each circle was hand felted, dyed, and sewn together and needle felted to the next row.

Accurate Likenesses

Here are new pictures of a piece I made last fall for Gallery R in Rochester. Heavily influenced by Jen Stark and Kara Walker, I wanted to do a papercut that was a portrait of my roommates and I.  Plus, we needed something to put on our living room wall. I had been  thinking about how a silhouette's likeness could more accurately capture how we feel, or be a silhouette of our inner world.
